Exciting news, and a book recommendation for newer authors
Last week my name was mentioned on Jane Friedman's blog! For those of you who haven’t heard of Jane Friedman, she’s a publishing expert with over 25 years in the industry, and a very popular blog with huge amounts of valuable information for authors and publishers.
Full disclosure: my name came up in an excellent piece written by another editor who’s quoted me in her latest book. That editor’s name is Hannah de Keijzer and her book is called How to Enjoy Being Edited.
Hannah is also a developmental editor and book coach, though she specialises in working with non-fiction authors. Her article for Jane’s blog addresses writers’ fears about hiring an editor. If you're a writer who's worried about hiring an editor, you might like to give it a read: https://janefriedman.com/3-common-fears-of-hiring-a-freelance-editor/
While How to Enjoy Being Edited is aimed at nonfiction authors, I think the content would also be helpful for newer fiction authors. For example, the book walks readers through the process of finding, approaching and working with an editor. It also covers the different types of editing, which is something I know many writers can struggle to understand. Not only that, but Hannah includes lots of practical information to help guide authors on their publishing journeys. For example, she includes questions writers might like to ask prospective editors to help them find the right editor for their work.. She also includes conversation starters for writers to use with their editor prior to the edit itself.
