Now offering payment plans (for both editing and proofreading)

Open notebook on a table. Large text on left side of notebook reads: "Never Stop Dreaming!" This is followed by a picture of a heart. A colourful, reusable coffee cup sits on the right side of the notebook with a pen behind it.

Editing and proofreading are investments in your craft and your book. Still, for many writers, it can be expensive and, sometimes, difficult to pay for all at once. With prices for many of my services starting at a few hundred pounds, I know this isn’t a small amount of money for most people. This is especially true given the state of the economy now. While I’d love to be able to offer my services for less, the truth is that this just isn’t practical for me. I too need to cover my bills, and both editing and proofreading are time consuming and take skill, experience, and good judgment. This is my job after all!

While I would usually charge independent authors 50% of the editing or proofreading fee upfront, with the remainder due upon submitting the edit/proofread, I’m now able to separate out the fee into further instalments, for those who are unable to otherwise afford editing.

What would this look like?

This might look like the fee for a £1,500 developmental edit being spread over three months, at a monthly cost to the author of £500 (with the first payment due upon booking). This is still a large sum of money, but dividing the cost in this way might make it more doable for some authors. Of course, this fee could be spread over a slightly longer period too, with lower payments along the way, depending on what’s agreed.

This could also look like the fee for a £600 manuscript critique being spread out over three months at a monthly cost of £200. Or a £500 proofread being spread out over two months at a monthly fee of £250.

You get the idea.

Who’s eligible?

Anyone who needs editing and can only afford to pay for it in instalments can request to pay this way. You don’t need to prove eligibility, but you do need to commit to paying and you’ll have to sign a legally binding contract stating as much.

Are there any conditions?

Yes! Besides committing to paying and signing a contract, only services charged at a minimum fee of £200 are eligible. However, if you’re paying for coaching at an ongoing rate then this doesn’t apply.

What do I need to do?

To request to pay in instalments, we first need to agree to work together. The first step in this process is to contact me with more information about your editing and/or proofreading requirements, which you can do by using the button below.
