Upgraded membership of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP)

I’m very happy to announce that my application to upgrade my membership of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) has been successful and that I’m now an Intermediate Member of the CIEP.

For those who aren’t familiar with the CIEP, they’re the primary editing organisation in the UK, ensuring that standards of editing and proofreading remain high. All members agree to abide by their Code of Practice and membership levels are contingent on experience and training..

Although I’ve done developmental editing for a few years now, I trained as a proofreader later and, for the purposes of upgrading my membership of the CIEP, my skills needed to focus on what they consider the core areas: copyediting and/or proofreading. As I’d previously focused primarily on developmental editing, many of the hours I’ve accumulated (and much of the training I’ve undertaken) didn’t apply towards my upgrade. Still, I’m glad to be an Intermediate Member of the Institute and am looking forward to taking on more proofreading and copyediting work, as well as undertaking additional training in these areas.

If you’d like some help polishing your nearly-ready-to-publish document or book, get in touch via the button below.

Alternatively, I still love helping authors strengthen their stories through developmental editing and coaching, so I can help with that too. Just send me a message about your project and we can discuss it.
